The difference between hot air welding and high frequency welding of PVC tarpaulin

1. Different principles

Hot air welding:

Use hot air guns and other equipment to generate high-temperature hot air to heat the welding part of the PVC tarpaulin to a softened state.

Then, by applying a certain pressure, the two pieces of PVC material are fused together. The temperature of hot air welding is usually between 150℃-300℃, which can be adjusted according to different PVC materials and thicknesses.

Hot air mainly transfers heat through the convection of hot air, so that the surface of the PVC material heats up and softens, thereby achieving welding.

 

High frequency welding:

Use high-frequency electromagnetic fields to make the polar molecules in the PVC tarpaulin (such as chlorine atoms in PVC molecules) vibrate at high speed to generate heat.

When the heat reaches a certain level, the PVC material softens and fuses together. The frequency of high-frequency welding is usually between 10-40MHz, and the specific frequency depends on the characteristics of the welding equipment and materials.

High frequency welding generates heat inside the material through the induction of the electromagnetic field, so the welding speed is faster and the efficiency is higher.

 

2. Different equipment

Hot air welding equipment:

Mainly includes hot air gun, temperature controller, pressure roller, etc. The hot air gun is the core equipment for generating hot air. The temperature controller can accurately adjust the temperature of the hot air. The pressure roller is used to apply pressure during the welding process to ensure the tight combination of the welding parts.

Hot air welding equipment is relatively simple, low cost, and easy to operate.

 

High frequency welding equipment:

Mainly composed of high frequency generator, electrode plate, pressure device, etc. The high frequency generator generates a high frequency electromagnetic field, the electrode plate transmits the electromagnetic field to the PVC tarpaulin, and the pressure device is used to apply pressure during the welding process.

High frequency welding equipment is relatively complex and costly, requiring professional technicians to operate and maintain it.

 

3. Different welding effects

Hot air welding:

The strength of the welding part is relatively low, and it is easy to have problems such as weak welding and cracking. However, hot air welding can be carried out on site, which is suitable for some small repairs and splicing work.

The weld of hot air welding is relatively wide and the appearance is relatively rough, which may affect the beauty of the tarpaulin.

 

High frequency welding:

The strength of the welding part is high, the welding is firm, and it is not easy to crack. The weld of high-frequency welding is relatively narrow, the appearance is smooth and beautiful, and the overall performance of the tarpaulin is less affected.

High-frequency welding is suitable for large-scale production and manufacturing, and can ensure the quality and consistency of the product.

 

4. Different scope of application

Hot air welding:

It is suitable for some occasions with low requirements for welding strength and small welding area, such as repair and splicing of tarpaulins.

Hot air welding can also be used for welding tarpaulins of some special shapes, such as round and arc shapes, because the hot air gun can flexibly adjust the angle and position to meet different welding needs.

 

High-frequency welding:

It is suitable for large-scale production of PVC tarpaulins, such as industrial tarpaulins, construction tarpaulins, etc. High-frequency welding can ensure welding quality and efficiency and meet the needs of large-scale production.

For some occasions with high requirements for welding strength and appearance, such as high-end outdoor tents, exhibition tents, etc., high-frequency welding is a better choice.
